Autobiographies
Friday ~ July 07, 2008 by Sangeeta Posted in Books, reviews
I have thumbed through some autobiographies over the years and have always come away feeling touched, inspired, enriched. What always amazes me is how contrasting our perceptions of celebrities, leaders, luminaries can be to what they actually might be. continuar…

The Music Room
Monday ~ May 05, 2008 by Sangeeta Posted in Books, reviews
The Music Room by Namita Devidayal is a beautiful book. Classical music is at once the central idea as also a background theme to the plot. The book unveils the journey of a girl (Namita) living in Mumbai and studying in an English school and discovering, accepting and loving a parallel world of classical music. The author unfolds the story lovingly and languidly, which makes it easy to read. Details unnecessary to the theme are omitted and yet the reader does not feel a jarring break to the storyline. The narrative is carefully peppered with research related to music though it is done in a storylike or anecdotal fashion. Though it deals with classical music, which is not a layman topic, it never bores the reader. It rather enriches the curious or awestruck mind. I would recommend it to everyone interested in a good read.
San Francisco Diary
Wednesday ~ February 02, 2008 by Sangeeta Posted in Oracle,San Francisco,conference,travel
San Francisco is a pretty coastal city. I and my husband Harshad went there late 2007 to attend the Oracle OpenWorld conference which is held at Moscone Center every year. San Francisco is a west coast city in the US and we travelled from India on a direct Mumbai-New York flight. We spent a couple of days with friends at the east coast. Apart from New York we also visited Washington DC , tales of which I will recount elsewhere. Both these cities had very cold weather (it rained in NewYork) and I caught a cold and the beginnings of flu inspite of all the layers of clothing. We left for San Fransisco very early on Sunday morning. I suffered from a horrible ear ache (which is quite common in air travel) during the flight inspite of the usual remedies of sweet-sucking and yawning. I had not yet recovered when we reached San Francisco at 2PM on Sunday. continuar…

My blogs are turning out to be travelogues not by prior design Gavkos is a lovely privately owned farm-land and farm-house which has been converted into a picnic spot. It’s about 35 KM from Pune. There are two routes that you can pick from to exit Pune. One is via the Sinhagad Road and another from Warje. The roads meet near Khadakwasla. continuar…
